The First Home Owner Grant (FHOG) is a state initiative to offer financial assistance to eligible participants purchasing their first home in Australia. While the eligibility requirement for each state or territory is unique, here are a few basic guidelines –
You must not have previously owned a residential property in Australia.
The contract must be signed on or after 1 July 2013.
You must be above 18 years of age while applying for the grant.
You must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
This grant applies to brand-new homes, substantially renovated homes, or properties being sold for the first time.
There is a cap on the maximum property value. This value varies from state to state. For instance, it is $600,000 in New South Wales and $750,000 in Victoria.
You must live in the purchased home consecutively for at least six months and use it as your primary residence.
Grant Amount
The grant amount also differs across states –
New South Wales (NSW): $10,000
Victoria (VIC): $10,000
Western Australia (WA): $10,000
South Australia (SA): $15,000
Tasmania (TAS): $30,000
Northern Territory (NT): $10,000
